Lions Clubs members address a wide variety of community needs, both locally and through major global initiatives. Their work is built around eight primary global causes:
Vision: Known internationally as "knights of the blind," Lions are committed to sight conservation and work to prevent avoidable blindness. Activities include conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals, running eye banks, distributing medicine, and recycling eyeglasses.
Childhood Cancer: Lions provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer through impactful service activities and improving the quality of life for those receiving treatment.
Diabetes: Members work to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life for those living with the disease through screenings, awareness campaigns, and support groups.
Environment: Lions focus on protecting the environment to create healthier, more sustainable communities through projects like tree planting, cleanups, recycling drives, and promoting clean water and sanitation.
Hunger: They strive to improve food security and access to nutritious food by supporting school feeding programs, food banks, and providing relief to vulnerable communities.
Disaster Relief: When major catastrophes strike, the Lions are often among the first to respond, providing immediate aid such as food, water, clothing, and medical supplies, as well as long-term reconstruction support.
Humanitarian Efforts: The organization provides broad humanitarian aid to address various critical needs globally, often through the LCIF grant program.
Youth: Lions support young people through mentorship, scholarships, recreation programs, and dedicated youth organizations like the Leo Clubs. They also run the Lions Quest program, a social-emotional learning curriculum aimed at fostering positive choices and preventing issues like bullying and substance abuse.
Through these efforts, Lions members served more than 410 million people worldwide between July 2024 and June 2025.
